Background

Emma-Louise Feeley joined Cranfield University as a Senior Research Technician in 2023. She holds a First Class Honours BSc in Environmental Design and Innovation, where she specialised in nature-based solutions for ecological restoration. She is a Registered Scientist (RSci) through the Science Council and a member of the Royal Society of Biology.

Since joining Cranfield, Emma has supported a range of plant and soil science projects, contributing to experimental design, laboratory research, and statistical data analysis. She has developed particular expertise in plant and soil molecular biology, including the extraction of high-molecular-weight DNA from plant tissues, as well as conducting soil microbial biomass and soil respiration measurements.

Emma has also built strong skills in Python programming, using libraries such as pandas, statsmodels, matplotlib, and seaborn to automate data analysis and create reproducible visual outputs. Most recently, she applied these tools to a Chelsea Flower Show project investigating biochar’s effectiveness as a growing medium. In addition to her analytical contributions, Emma also grew the plants displayed in the Gold Medal-winning garden, helping to showcase biochar as a sustainable solution at one of the UK’s most prestigious public engagement events.
